The Crystal Palace Exhibition site wowed audiences here in South London for 82 years. Its roots, however, lay in the Great Exhibition held in Hyde Park in 1851: Professional history tour guide, and Crystal Palace Museum guide, Richard Watkins, tells the story of the Great Exhibition. It is a story of great Victorian ambition for progress and peace; a spectacularly popular event in London, attracting over 6 million visitors; Richard traces the dramatic and sometimes bizzare ups and downs of how the Great Exhibition all came about and what an iconic spectacle of Victorian Britain it was.

The talk starts at 19:00 on Tuesday 15th January 2018, doors open 18:45. The talk will last 45 minutes followed by questions. Visitors will be able to browse the museum afterwards. When attending this event, please use the Anerley Road entrance to the Museum as the park will be closed.
